Dubai enjoys a warm subtropical climate and experiences very little rain, making it an ideal destination for those who enjoy the sun and outdoor pursuits. The best time to be outdoors is during the winter, when the city has plenty to offer visitors who are seeking refuge from the height of the summer heat and humidity.

Dubai's weather

Given its location in the Arabian Desert, it’s hardly surprising that Dubai enjoys a warm climate all year round. Situated around 1,700 miles north of the equator, it has a pleasant, subtropical dry climate. It experiences an average rainfall of just 10 to 14cm over twelve months, and less than a week of rainy days in total across a typical year. This, coupled with the all the conveniences of a modern, technological city, makes Dubai an ideal destination at any time of year, particularly for those who enjoy the sun.

At the height of summer, temperatures of over 50 degrees Celsius (122 Fahrenheit) have occasionally been recorded. More typically, however, the summer heat averages from the high 30s to the mid 40s, along with high humidity. For those who prefer to escape the heat, the months of October to May offer more pleasant and comfortable daytime temperatures ranging from 20 degrees Celcius (68 Fahrenheit) up to the mid 30s. Many visitors prefer to visit during these cooler months, especially as this is the ideal time to escape the harsh winter weather of northern Europe and elsewhere. This is also the best time of year to visit Dubai if you’re hoping to enjoy the many outdoor pursuits on offer.

Whatever the temperature, Dubai offers a wealth of opportunities to keep cool; from a dip in one of its many pools and coastal swimming spots to its delightfully air-conditioned luxurious shopping malls. There’s even a place in Dubai where it snows every day; inside the wonderful world of Ski Dubai, where you can enjoy winter sports even on the very hottest day of the year!

A rain shower in Dubai is a rare experience indeed. The months of December to April offer a slightly higher chance of catching a shower, but some years may yield no more than a few minutes of rain in total. Torrential downpours are not unknown in Dubai, but are generally years apart. Warm clothing is typically required only if you’re out at night in the winter, when temperatures can occasionally drop as low as 10 degrees Celcius (50 Fahrenheit).
