The prospect of planning a quick weekend trip to an amazing attraction-filled city such as Dubai can seem overwhelming for first-timers. The renowned international fashion magazine, Marie Claire, which also dedicates segments to lifestyle and travel, has shared a piece that could make it easier for visitors to get a clear view of how they can schedule their three-day adventure to the Emirate.

In an attempt to help travellers organise their time and give them some ideas on what to expect and where to go, Marie Claire blogger Kara Ladd recently published an article narrating her weekend trip to Dubai.

As Ladd described it:

The city of sand, skyscrapers, and crowds of cranes building this growing urban epicentre.

Dubai is filled with amazing attractions, so it may be difficult to narrow down the places of interest and decide on basic choices such as accommodations, dining and even dress code. The writer made several recommendations to make the experience even more enjoyable.

Where to Stay

Ladd chose to stay in the newly-opened Renaissance Downtown Hotel, with views over the Dubai Water Canal. The six restaurants and lounges conceived by David Myers, Morimoto, and Sam Ross, and Six Senses wellness spa, all made the experience amazing. The writer also recommends travellers (if in budget) to try booking a room at Burj Al Arab (the world’s only seven-star hotel) or at the Madinat Jumeirah, an Arabian-style resort where you can take a boat ride through the grounds for a quick bite or trip to the beach.

What to Do

Although there is certainly a long list of activities that may vary depending on each traveller’s interests and priorities, Ladd suggested a few exciting experiences that are not usually included in the city sightseeing schedules. Riding a hot air balloon for breakfast is certainly one of the most memorable. The ride takes you over the Dubai desert, offering vistas of wild camels roaming below whilst you indulge in hummus, baked beans, halloumi, eggs, and (of course) Arabica coffee.

Next, exploring the Spice and Gold Souk is the perfect way of getting acquainted with the emirate. In addition to authentic spice seasoning, the marketplace also has plenty of fashion and home goods shop, making it a great place to purchase souvenirs. In order to keep immersing in Dubai’s culture, a heritage tour around its most important sites could help you gain an appreciation for local life. By visiting the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU), you can learn all about the historic Muslim culture.

Where to Eat and Drink

As a global city, Dubai boasts many drinking and dining venues created to please the most discerning palates. Some of Ladd’s personal favourites were Arabian Tea House Restaurant and Café, At.mosphere by Burj Khalifa, Boundless By Kara and Bliss Lounge.

What to Bring

With high temperatures and dry weather all year round, it is important to keep hydrated, so carrying water bottles around is a must. Moreover, your clothing choice should take this weather into account, all the while respecting that the UAE is a Muslim country. In order not to disrespect the culture, it is a good idea to pack outfits that cover legs and shoulders.
