The verdict on the newly built St. Regis Dubai by a blogging guest

A recent article published on the online edition of London Evening Standard reviewed the newly opened St. Regis Dubai, located in one of Dubai's newest districts, officially called Al Habtoor but also known as Business Bay. A bit secluded from the city's main hotspots, as described by former guest and reviewer, Joe Krishnan, this new is the perfect retreat for couples escaping the crowds and business stays with ultra-luxury.

The verdict on the newly built St. Regis Dubai by a blogging guest

With a decor that´s more reminiscent of classic New York-style luxury design, strong marble features throughout and decadent chandelier pieces that wouldn’t look out of place in a James Bond film, the new St. Regis Dubai is the place to experience “ultra-luxury” in the quietest surroundings, according to recent reviewer and past guest, Joe Krishnan who writes for the online publication of the London Evening Standard.

Reviewing the new property which is located in somewhat of a new district that´s still in its early stages of development (at least in terms of its tourist facilities), Mr Krishnan describes his experience as sedated, indulging and ultra-luxurious.

Positioned in the new Al Habtoor urban development area, within the Business Bay district, the hotel's biggest (and, according to Krishnan, the only) shortcoming is its isolated location which may put off those heading to Dubai in search of doorstep recreation and entertainment, but, on the other hand, might appeal to those seeking peace and quiet in an undisturbed setting with lashings of luxury at every turn.

On the upside it´s not quite as isolated as it seems either, as Krishnan elaborates that it's also within short walking distance to the Business Bay metro station which easily connects guests to popular destinations like Downtown Dubai, Jumeirah Beach and Dubai International Airport. And if you´re still feeling too remote and isolated from it all for your liking, Krishnan is quick to remind you of the consolation prize:

“…if you are feeling out of the loop, at least you have the best view of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper, which glistens at night with the help of thousands of small flickering lights.”

Talking about the hotel's overall ambience and feel, Krishnan highlights the opulence of the grand exterior, which he says perfectly matches the level of grandeur that awaits inside. The lobby is nothing short of spectacular, “a sublime mixture of luxury and contemporary design” that, according to the reviewer, is not traditional in the very least, which makes you feel anywhere else in the world (most likely New York he says) but in the heart of the Arabic desert.

The lobby is highlighted and praised as the grandest of centrepieces, with two stunning marble staircases that wind their way around in the most majestic of fashions. At the time of his visit, it just so happened that a very fitting black-tie ball was taking place, and Mr Krishnan says he saw guests clad in the most impressive of gala attires, “strolling about in lavish dresses and smart tuxedos”.

When it comes to accommodation, Krishnan enjoyed the privilege of staying in one of the 52 sumptuous suites, named after Caroline Astor, the mother of founder John Jacob Astor IV and he praises the suite as excellent in every way. He highlights the ample space with large double doors opening onto a spacious hallway with rooms in every direction, the ultra-comfortable king-size bed and the personal butler who offers to unpack your clothes (even though he politely declined).

The bathroom gets high marks too as he describes the double sink area and long bathtub, “ideal for a couple looking to relax”. To this suggestion he adds one last remark:

“And if the walk-in shower area doesn´t amaze you, nothing will.”

Wining and dining at either of the hotel's three main restaurants comes highly recommended, with Krishnan emphasising the fact that the hotel takes enormous pride in serving the finest cuisine from around the globe. Our reviewer dined at the J&C Steakhouse, where meat dishes are the specialty and where he enjoyed a succulent tenderloin steak, cooked to perfection and acclaimed as among the best he had tasted. The other two restaurants are the “Parisian-inspired” Cafe Fleuri and the courtyard bistro, Le Patio. In addition to this perfect trio, Krishnan advises guests to head to the Brasserie Quartier for continental breakfasts.

St. Regis Dubai´s best spot to relax on is undoubtedly the rooftop pool, which among all of the hotel's facilities the writer draws particular attention to by describing it thus:

“The rooftop pool area is as quiet as they come as you are cordoned off from the rest of Dubai by high walls and the iconic dome structure on the top of the hotel. The pool splits into three parts that circulates around the dome with sun loungers and massage beds available.”

Overall, Krishnan concludes the St. Regis Dubai is a fine property indeed, best suited for business travellers seeking a short but pampering stay. As the hotel lies outside the loop of Dubai’s main attractions, he also recommends it to couples for the level of isolation and intimacy without disruption.

This beautiful, subdued property is certainly not the last in St. Regis Dubai's pipeline, as we speak (or rather, as we write) the new St. Regis Dubai, The Palm is being built, and once opened it will become the fifth St. Regis property in the emirate. Last February we gave you all the details of this new construction due for completion sometime in 2018.
