Where to stay when visiting Dubai

Posted: 30-Jun-16 12:52

Hoping to give millennial-age travellers some advice on visiting Dubai, one online writer recently came up with her own video blog showcasing her recommendations on the best places to stay. No matter whether you hope to see skyscrapers or old markets, there are three main locations in the city she recommends.

Where to stay when visiting Dubai

If you’re confused about where to stay on your next holiday to Dubai, the editor behind the self-proclaimed “leading Muslim friendly travel blog” is offering some advice. Elena, who runs MuslimTravelGirl.com, credits her experience to years of marketing and branding, as well as being named the UK’s first female Chartered Islamic Marketer. She says her goal is to help other millennial-age Muslims stylishly explore locations around the globe at an affordable cost.

In a recent article published on her blog Elena posts a video chat, in which she helps answer one of the most common questions she says she gets from readers. One of a series of 30 video questions she’s posting on her blog, this particular article advises readers of three places she considers the best to stay while in Dubai.

Dubai Marina /JBR walk

If you’re hoping to get an up-close look at towering skyscrapers, man-made Dubai Marina offers up a New York City-style setting at night. Meanwhile, right along the waterfront, JBR walk is packed with stylish options, with room to take a stroll or dine in one of the many restaurants. The area’s popular with locals and tourists on the weekends, plus close to Jumeirah Beach. While the author notes some of the hotels in this area are more expensive with many five-star hotels, she claims you can still find some deals. She recommends it for older people and for families, for there’s plenty to keep you entertained at night, too, or at least just a short walk away. You can also easily hop on the metro to get around.

Deira / Dubai Creek area

Closer to the airport, the Deira/Dubai Creek area offers more of an old town, traditional feel, with a souq and shopping, void of the tall buildings found in other parts of Dubai. She points out that hotels are inexpensive here and easy to find, plus there’s a lot to explore in the area on your own. With affordable souvenirs too, you can take the metro or a dinner boat to get around.

Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall

A third suggestion for visitors is the area surrounding Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. While you won’t find a lot of space to go for a stroll outside, the popular mall is a great location for shoppers. Plus, it’s pointed out that it’s very hot to walk around outside in Dubai during the summer months. The world’s tallest building also provides a main attraction to see, while the metro or taxis can be used to visit other parts of Dubai. The blogger admits that most hotels in this area are located along Sheikh Zayed road, a busy main road that is prime for business travellers. While not as inexpensive as Deira and Dubai Creek, there are still some hotel deals to be found.

An additional money saving tip is to use Airbnb to find an apartment, which could be much less expensive than booking a traditional hotel. In addition, the metro is also less expensive than taxis, though you may have to do a little walking, Overall Elena reminds readers that Dubai is very spread out, about an hour from end to end and there is no city centre.
