Top things to do during a short break in Dubai

Travel blog writer, Vaughan McShane, has recently returned from his first trip to Dubai with Emirates Airlines where he got to explore the city's attractions. During his trip Vaughan highlights the best place to activities to enjoy in the emirate, including a trip to Old Town Dubai, a stop-off at the Burj Khalifa, and a scenic river cruise down the Dubai Creek.

Top things to do during a short break in Dubai

Vaughan McShane, a travel blogger, recently took a three-day trip to Dubai to discover more about the ever-expanding city. During his visit, he visited old and new attractions in the emirate. The writer highlighted the best attractions and activities to enjoy during a short visit to Dubai, from shopping in vast malls to dinner in the desert.

Vaughan headed to the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, to soak up the panoramic views from the observation deck, 555 metres high into the sky. He explained:

“Thankfully we had wonderful weather that day and the excellent visibility provided spectacular scenes of Dubai beneath us.”

Vaughan also commented on this attraction:

“Rumour has it that on the clearest of days you can actually see Iraq from the observation deck.”

After soaking up the city views, his next stop was Dubai Mall, the biggest mall in the world, and home to hundreds of designer and high street stores, restaurants, and cafes, as well as an aquarium with manta rays and scuba divers.

During his stay in Dubai, Vaughan explored the city from the river on a Bateaux River Cruise that sails up and down Dubai Creek. There are romantic slow-moving dinner cruises, as well as party boats with bright lights and a vibrant atmosphere.

An "Old Town New Town Dubai Tour" is recommended for travellers who want to explore the city and have a limited amount of time during their visit. Arabian Tours offers trips that explore both sides of the city, taking visitors to sights including Dubai Creek, Palm Island, Jumeirah Beach and the Sheik’s Palace, before heading to the historical side of the city where people can wander around bustling souks and mosques, and take a trip on a traditional boat.

The last stop on Vaughan’s trip to Dubai was the desert for the Sundowner Dune Dinner Safari Tour. He described tghe experience this way:

“Going to the Middle East and not feeling the desert sand between your toes would be regrettable. It’s like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower or going to South Africa and not having a braai. Driving in amongst the vast expanse of open sand, apart from simply being exhilarating, is soul satisfying.”

The tour started with a falconry show in an oasis, and the group then headed off on an adrenalin-pumping off-road adventure on the huge, sandy dunes. Next up was a buffet-style dinner in a Bedouin camp with belly dancing for entertainment, followed by fruity shisha pipes under the twinkling stars.

Dubai is a destination that is renowned for its opulence, unique architecture, and “world’s biggest” and “world’s first” sights and attractions. The emirate is home to some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and a glitzy nightlife, as well as an array of family-friendly attractions including a ski centre, water park and theme park.
