The extraordinary energy of Dubai makes it a thrilling destination for holidaymakers; however, a break from the hurly-burly can be an excellent way to recharge your batteries so that you enjoy your return to the fray even more. The Hatta Tour takes participants out into the countryside to the beautiful village of Hatta where they can experience the tranquillity of traditional Emirati life.
The tour departs from Dubai early in the morning and heads off down the Hatta highway towards Oman. During your journey in luxurious 4x4 vehicles you will see lush oases, gorges, dry riverbeds and green fields. Ultimately you will head into the Hajjar mountains, where Hatta Heritage Village is located.
The village itself is constructed around the core of a 16th century settlement. New buildings have been erected that perfectly recreate what an ancient Emirati mountain village would have looked like. The village is located next to the Hatta Wadi, an oasis which sustained the community during the summer months.
The buildings are constructed in the traditional style using stone, mud and palm fronds. Several of them are arranged to exhibit displays of local farming methods, poetry, costumes and musical instruments. Touring the village gives an excellent impression of how life was for local people in decades gone by.
The dwellings are organised around an ancient fort, which was formerly home to the Sheikh of Hatta. There are also two watchtowers overlooking the village. These were placed to guard the village against invaders. There is also a mosque.
Hundreds of date palms surround Hatta. The tour includes a demonstration of how these were watered in the traditional way by using water from wells. There are also beautifully clean rock pools near the village, where visitors can take a dip to cool off from the heat.
The last stop before heading back to Dubai is the Hatta Fort Hotel, where visitors will be able to take lunch and refreshments. The 4x4s will then take the party back to the city past local markets selling fruit, pottery and carpets.
For anyone interested in discovering the Dubai that lies outside of the city, the Hatta Tour is the perfect way to see the UAE's rural side as well as its historical culture.
