After all the excitement of Christmas, there is just one final hurrah of the season to enjoy and that’s New Year. Sometimes this celebration can pale compared to its bigger and brasher counterpart, but those seeing in 2017 in Dubai will not be disappointed. There is so much going on in the Emirate, you’ll be pleased you booked a holiday in this part of the world for New Year.
Take in the fireworks
Fireworks are an important part of any destination’s New Year’s Eve celebrations and Dubai is no different, apart from one thing: they’re bigger and better than anywhere else. This is of course a metaphor for the city, which is home to many superlatives, including the tallest building in the world. The Burj Khalifa is in fact the backdrop to some of the impressive bursts of colour, so you may wish to position yourself close by to see the pyrotechnic spectacular.
Alternatively, you can attend one of the other displays, such as that at the iconic Burj Al Arab, Atlantis The Palm or Al Qasba. With so many fireworks going off around the city, it will be difficult to miss them entirely, but it is worth scoping out a spot in advance to get a good view. Those lucky enough to have tickets to see Coldplay at du arena can expect to see fireworks as part of the show, while the free winterland carnival on Yas Island will also feature a ten-minute display.
Sail Dubai Creek in a traditional dhow
Leaving land behind and enjoying a trip on a traditional wooden boat known as a dhow is a fantastic way to finish 2016. There are a number of packages available, leaving from various destinations on the saltwater creek, lasting for different lengths of time. They all include dinner and entertainment, as well as offering other benefits.
You’ll be able to see many of the most famous sight of Dubai as you sail past and take in the bursts of colour, as fireworks explode all over the city. Add to this the lack of crowds and wonderful company and you’ll be destined for a special evening.
Party in the desert
Dubai may be best known as a towering city, making it easy to forget that it is situated in the heart of the desert, but it’s really easy to escape it all. If you’re travelling in a large group or happy to join a tour with others, the chance to enjoy a party in the desert is one not to be missed.
It’s something a little bit different and will feature barbecue stations, chilled-out music and traditional dancing. This is a great option for those who like the great outdoors and love embracing their sense of adventure.
Enjoy the views from 360°
Located at the end of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel walkway, 360° is a fantastic venue whatever time of year, but it comes particularly alive on New Year’s Eve. As well as the stunning panoramic views of Dubai, the Burj Al Arab and the Arabian Gulf, there will be a five-course gala dinner and music from handpicked local DJs. Things kick off at 8pm, going well beyond midnight, offering all the ingredients for a fantastic evening.
Attend the Atlantis Royal Gala
Among the hottest tickets in town for New Year’s Eve is the gala at Atlantis, The Palm, which promises glitz, glamour, feasting and entertainment galore. Arrive to Champagne and canapes in the Asateer tent, before heading into the formal venue, for an evening of entertainment, including a 30-piece band. The bulging luxury buffet will include live cooking stations and feature dishes to suit all tastes, from caviar to shawarmas. The dress code is elegant, with men expected to wear shirts and women gowns.
No matter how you decide to spend your New Year’s Eve in Dubai, you’ve already made the best decision to head to the Emirate. It’s a destination that never does anything by halves and is bound to leave you charmed and with many happy memories of the beginning of 2017.
