DragonMart

This dragon-shaped mall draws thousands of visitors a day with its offer of Chinese goods - a choice unrivalled outside the mainland. If you are keen to bag a bargain or get your hands on unusual jewellery or shoes, or perhaps a gift for friends back home, DragonMart is the place to go. Give yourself enough time to browse and stop for a bite to eat.

With 4,000 shops and wholesalers specialising in fashion, sports, furniture, household goods, stationery, toys, textiles, shoes, jewellery and electrical items, Dubai’s mind-bogglingly huge DragonMart is certainly a shopper’s paradise.

But it is also a mall with a difference. The unusual thing about DragonMart is that all of its products are of Chinese origin. Indeed the 150,000 square metre complex, three quarters of a mile long, is the biggest Chinese goods trading hub outside the country, celebrating the strong trading links between China and the United Arab Emirates.

Millions of people from all over the world visit each year, looking for a taste of the Orient and a memorable Dubai experience. Building material warehouses, fashion concessions and furniture showrooms sit side-by-side at DragonMart.

Bargain hunters enjoy the low prices on machinery, household items, electrical goods, luggage and sportswear, while tourists are guaranteed to find unusual and affordable gifts or souvenirs. How about a decorative table lamp, a handbag, a necklace or a pair of sunglasses?

Even window shoppers will get plenty of stimulation from walking through the huge venue and soaking up the atmosphere, as thousands of traders hawk their wares from their colourful souks.

Situated on Al Awir Road in Dubai International City, 30 minutes from Jebel Ali Port and Dubai International Airport, DragonMart opened in 2004 and has expanded over the years, with an extension, nicknamed DragonMart 2, opening recently. The venue now has 3,950 retail and wholesale shops and suppliers, 2,500 car parking spaces, dozens of food stalls and cafes, hotels and a cinema complex.
