Located just off the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, Global Village is a seasonal extravaganza, bringing global products, culture and cuisine to the heart of Dubai during the cooler winter months.
First held in 1996, Global Village started out on a small site by Dubai Creek with just a few kiosks and a small number of participating countries. Today, the attraction has grown enormously, with 45 countries taking part in the 2011 event and organisers expecting more than five million visitors each season.
Each country that participates in Global Village can feature its culture, cuisine and products in a dedicated pavilion. Guests visiting the attraction can browse these international stands, picking up bargains, sampling delicious dishes and learning about diverse world cultures.
As well as the numerous national pavilions, Global Village also boasts a funfair, a canal complete with traditional abras, and a choice of daily entertainment events.
Part of the colossal Dubailand development, Global Village is located outside of the city centre and visitors will need to hire a taxi or use their own vehicle to reach the attraction. Once there, guests will find a huge amount to keep them busy, with enough food stands, shops and attractions to keep even the most energetic holidaymaker happy.
With large parts of the Dubailand project due for completion in the coming years, the site is set to become one of the most important and popular attractions in the city.
Whether you’re in the mood to sample some Filipino street food, pick up some Turkish delight, dig into some Vietnamese noodles or enjoy a bit of Spanish tapas, there’s guaranteed to be something at the Global Village to suit you.
The perfect destination for holidaymakers who want to see the best produce the world has to offer without leaving the comfort and glamour of Dubai, Global Village is a must see for all inquisitive visitors to Dubai as well as residents of the city.
